Vietnam – South Korea: Cooperation on establishing Vietnam – Korea Institute of S&T Research

Minister Nguyễn Quân highly appreciated South Korea’s support over the past time to Vietnam in many fields, including training for high-level human resources on S&T, especially the cooperation program with South Korea on establishing Vietnam – Korea Institute of S&T Research (V- KIST) according KIST model in Vietnam.

Accordingly with KIST’s structural model, functions and tasks appropriate with Vietnam’s specific conditions, V- KIST will support Vietnam to take up Korea’s advantages in order to strengthen S&T potentials, meeting requirements of the country’s economic integration and development.

Also according to the Minister, KIST, the world leading multi-sectoral research institute whose research basic level is of the international level, at the same time application-oriented research directions are of a national research institute, has created important, modern and very essential technologies for the development, industrialization and modernization.

In the meeting, Mr. Kil Choo Moon said that KIST’s most basic objective have been research and development of new technologies, which have high creativeness to promote S&T, popularize research results and achievements in the society. For the early stage of the project implementation, KIST and Vietnam would establish a working group to share and develop together the feasibility project. The Korean party would provide ODA for Vietnam to invest in facilities and research equipment, coordinate to conduct joint researches on S&T, exchange researchers and transfer technology for the development of strategic industrial technologies.

It is known that in order to implement ideas of the Prime Minister and Mister of Science and Technology in their high-level visit to South Korea in March 2012 cooperative guidelines with South Korea to establish an S&T Institute according to KIST model in Vietnam, South Korea will support the establishment of V- KIST in Vietnam. It is expected that the project would be implemented in Hòa Lạc High Tech Part for the coming time.
