The US committed to support Vietnam with the study on climate change

Mr. Joakim Parker, Director of the United State Agency for International Development (USAID) has affirmed as above in the meeting of the Minister of Science and Technology Nguyễn Quân which took place on January 23/1/2014 in Hanoi.

In the meeting, Minister Nguyễn Quân has recognized the US’ assistance over the past time, in which the field of human resource training and Vietnam Education Fund Program is one typical example and proposed USAID continue its support to VEF after the Program ends in Vietnam.

In addition, the Minister hoped that USAID would support Vietnam through projects under the framework of the Agreements signed between the two countries, including Agreements on scientific research cooperation relating to some issues as developing green energy, recycled energy,… especially nuclear power energy as well as training for experts in this field.

In addition, Vietnam hoped to understand, study, cooperate and learn the US’ experience in some prioritized field as impacts of rising seawater; environmental pollution in big cities; forest development,…

With purposes of understanding fields to which Vietnam has paid special attention to, then the US would have appropriate revisions for cooperation policies between the two countries for the coming time, Mr. Joakim Parker said that the US’ Government has been in the process of approving new development strategies for some fields in some nations in the world, for Vietnam, the US has affirmed his commitment to support some fields which are currently considered as first priorities, especially in S&T field as developing clean energy, recycled energy, studying impacts of climate changes, forest development …

“The US would review, support Vietnam through some issues which are prioritized by the US including studying impacts of climate change, human resource training, studying the use of redundant products in agriculture, developing mechanics branch,…” Mr. Joakim Parker affirmed.
