Vietnam - Korea made joint efforts to promote the progress of building V-KIST

In the working session, Deputy Minister Trần Việt Thanh has affirmed that the building of V-KIST has had a very important meaning at this time, especially the V-KIST project has been supported by the Korean Government as well as that of Director Kil Choo Moon. According to the Deputy Minister, right after the initiative of building V-KIST was launched, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) has actively set up the Working group for the V-KIST Project in order to develop research orientations for V-KIST on the basis appropriate with Vietnam’s current situation. So far, the site clearance for Stage 1 of V-KIST has been completed with 12 ha. Especially, MOST has reported to Vietnam’s Government on establishing a special mechanism for V-KIST in order to bring in the highest project’s efficiency.

Delivering a speech in the working session, Mr. Kil Choo Moon has emphasized that the two parties need to shorten the time on building V-KIST to 4 years instead of 5 years as scheduled. However, in order to achieve this, Korea hopes to receive specific proposals from the Vietnamese side. In addition, Mr. Kil Choo Moon has also proposed some specific recommendations as that the ODA funds provided to V-KIST would be channeled through KOICA in Vietnam; the Policy Committee would be established to provide support and consultancy for the Project; the Special Advisory Committee relating to economic advisory; the Science and Technology Advisory Committee and finally the Advisory Committee for Infrastructure Construction.

It is known that in the morning of September 09, 2013 in Hanoi took place the Singing ceremony of Cooperation Agreement on V-KIST Project between Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology and Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Accordingly, V-KIST has been defined as one S&T Institute which is advanced and of international standards with the model of Research Institute carrying out researches according to contracts, research and development on key technologies appropriate with Korea’s national priority directions and strong advantages including advanced material technology, biology technology, energy and environment technology, information, mechanics and electronic technology ,… The project is expected to help promote linkages between application research and the real life, contributing to promote the industrialization and modernization in Vietnam for the coming time.
